Our last event of the year and the first one of our flagship Playnnovation™ series took place in November 2019 at Jetbrains in Munich. The Lab started by exploring the theory of fun and the importance of incorporating play in our work environments and daily life to fuel imagination, creativity, problem-solving abilities, cross- collaboration and emotional well-being; which are essential elements for driving Innovation.
We began the night exploring why fun creates engagement and how playing is the best way to (un)structure ideas in order to test them out in a safe, productive and meaningful context. Through a guided game session we took the participants on a journey to unleash the potential of purposeful play by identify the components of the innovator’s mindset within them.
Then we delved full into playful mode by building the teams who would go on to idea and prototype a world-changing idea while stepping up to the challenges we put in their way.
The night wrapped up with a bang during our pitch sessions where we heard about a “Ballonce” (ballon + balance) a self-driving automated a mobile home that allows to work remotely, the ideal work-life balance office’s layout, a in-house playground to foster creativity, a tele-transportation travel machine and “Citaly” a sustainable city of the future.
During the entire lab the participants experienced how through purposeful play they could build up the skills needed to foster creativity and deliver transformation in your innovators journey.

What is Playnnovation™?
At LILab, we believe play and the connection it builds among people and ideas provides innovators with the necessary competencies they need in order to drive change. Children, who are not afraid of failing, are the role models we look up to in terms of creativity, fearless exploration and innovation.
This is why we have created the Playnnovation™ framework, a game-based hands-on experience aimed at providing a safe space to improvise, imagine and be inspired.
The framework brings into focus the core issues of an innovator’s journey such as limited resources, unpredictability and a continuous changing context. Through a model based on an evolving set of rules, we combine creative quiet times with hectic sprints which model real-life situations.
